ICAN's Talk boost - Outline

Talk Boost is a targeted and evidence-based intervention programme, which supports language delayed children in Reception and Key Stage One (KS1) to make progress with their language and communication skills. The programme is delivered in Primary Schools by classroom teachers and assistants and provides a structured programme that accelerates children's progress in language and communication by an average of 18 months after a ten weeks intervention. The training needs to be completed by a Teaching and Teaching Assistant pair from the same class/establishment.

ICAN's Talk Boost - Outcomes for Children

Talk Boost narrows the gap between 4-7 year olds with language delay. Talk Boost targets childrenwit mild delay who will catch up with the right support. Talk Boost is not designed to target the more comlex sppech, language or communication difficulties  some children experience. Following training you will use a progression tool to screen children and identify those suitable to benefit from the programme.

ICAN report:-

"We have evaluated Talk Boost twice, once in a randomised control trial and once as part of a whole school approach to supporting SLCN, called A Chance to Talk. In both evaluations we found statistically significant results to show that on average children made between 9-18 months progress in language levels over the 10 week period. Key findings and statistical analysis of results from the development stage of Talk Boost can be supplied if required."
