This course explores what 'British' values are, and what they are not, touching on some of the controversy surrounding them, and examines how they should be 'actively promoted' through SMSC learning.

It will provide teachers with some suggested resources for teaching 'British' values through the curriculum and consider the key skills and attitudes necessary for pupils to be prepared for life in modern Britain.

Outcomes for staff-

- Consider their own personal, religious and cultural values and how these relate to their identity

- Understand what the DfE mean by 'British' values and how these should be promoted through SMSC learning

- Know where to find resources to teach children about our democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty and help develop mutual respect and tolerance of those with different faiths and beliefs through the curriculum

- Share and discuss good practice

- Clarify the expectations of Ofsted
